Plant species were registered for the first time in Uruguay on UPM Forestal Oriental lands, thus increasing the number of plant species in the country. Among them are Chloraea bella (Orquidaceae), Conyza lorentzii (Asteraceae), Leptochloa chloridiformis (Poaceae) and Ipheion tweedianum (Alliaceae). A species new to science was also recorded: Antiphytum charruasorum (Boraginaceae).

During the past five years, approximately 65% of all species that make up Uruguay’s native flora have been found on UPM Forestal Oriental lands, which shows how effective conservation management can be.
