C ontinuous improvement of environmental performance is part of UPM’s strategy as well as its responsibility agenda for 2030. The programme is thus instrumental in helping UPM to achieve its long-term goals. through which UPM seeks to improve environmental performance through the introduction of cutting-edge technologies. The UPM Changshu paper mill is a key pilot in the ‘More with Biofore in China’ programme,

“The goal of the ‘More with Biofore in China’ programme is to reduce emissions in China, yet at the same time we are looking for new solutions that we can also apply to other mills around the world,” says Sami Lundgren , Vice President of Environment & Responsibility at UPM. Lundgren describes the project in China as visible proof of the comprehensive approach taken by UPM. “By investing in the competence of our personnel as well as in research and technology, we aim to reduce material waste and environmental impacts. At the same time, we want to improve cost efficiency at our mills. The project offers excellent support for UPM’s goals for 2030 from an economic, social and environmental point of view.”
