Within the framework of UPM’s commitment to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, we highlight the contribution of forestry activity to the sequestration of atmospheric carbon in order to mitigate the increase in global temperature. At UPM Forestal Oriental, we currently put into effect several initiatives to understand and manage our emissions, for example: •We identify, manage and monitor our carbon emissions and carbon capture. •We provide information for the annual report on carbon emissions and carbon capture put together by UPM global. •We monitor the behaviour and evolution of organic carbon

The landscape is a social value, and we manage it responsibly through active involvement with communities since forestry as an activity is still recent in some areas of the country. The design of the plantations takes into consideration the landscape’s main characteristics, considering the patchwork of species, size, age, space and regeneration cycles. We aim to reconcile and preserve as we produce. To do this, we analyse the landscape as a whole, beyond the land’s property limits according scale, intensity and risks, and define adjustment to be made if necessary.

Ecosystem services are benefits that an ecosystem provides to society and that improve people’s health, economy and quality of life. Through biodiversity conservation and functional diversity, we aim to preserve the ecosystem’s structure and operations. Atmospheric carbon sequestration is an ecosystem service generated by forestry activity.
