Th e year 2022 was a transition year marked by the implementation of our operational growth plans and the preparation of forestry operations to start the timber supply for the new pulp mill in the department of Durazno. In 2022 we achieved all important objectives thanks to the team and the workflows in place. We completed important projects that were key to UPM’s commitment to research and development towards sustainable forestry. In that sense, during May, we celebrated the inauguration of UPM’s First Forestry Research Centre in the city of Paysandú. The centre is the first of its kind in the world and specialises in Eucalyptus. The project required a USD 5 million investment, and it currently employs around 60 people including agronomists, genetic improvement and healthcare experts, forestry and timber quality researchers, and chemical technologists and operators. The team continues to promote applied research activities in Uruguay,
