UPM Forestal Oriental Annual Report 2022
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: PRODUCING AND DEVELOPING NEW TECHNOLOGIES
For the Forestry team, 2022 was a big year since we reached the lowest rate of seedling replacement. This achievement is the result of several endeavours implemented in our area since 2015, including: parameterising seedling and planting quality features to make sure they can be evaluated and improved upon, implementing a Quality Process to control the quality of seedlings and plantation activities and improving the quality of temporary nurseries in the field - these are audited throughout different seasons and generat e reports with a score on each contractor. In addition, we improved ant control, developed new combined clearing and
tillage teams to improve the quality of soil preparation, among others. Towards the end of the year, our team received the pleasant news that we received the first “Rosario Pou” Award which celebrates innovation in Uruguay’s forestry chain and is awarded by the National Academy of Engineering. This recognition is the product of the technological developments for the planting device known as Sarapico, the count of seedlings and their correct fertili s ation. We worked together with the UTEC ( the Technological University of Uruguay ) and Young based metallurgist J. Hartwich on this project and look forward to remain working in the search for continuous improvement.
